The Odyssey in Greek Prose for Advanced Beginners

This fall I’m teaching a course at Institutum Antiquitatis on Neophytos Doukas’s prose paraphrase of the Odyssey.
Doukas, a scholar of the Greek Enlightenment, rewrote the epic in Koine prose. That removes the two obstacles that usually keep Homer for late in a learner’s path, the Epic dialect and the meter, and leaves a text an advanced beginner reader can follow. We read and discuss the paraphrase in Ancient Greek.
