Learn Ancient Greek as a Living Language

Private tutoring, group courses, and free resources—all built on the principle that language is meant to be spoken, not just translated.

Teaching Philosophy

Why spoken Greek changes everything.

For centuries, Ancient Greek was taught as a puzzle to be decoded—parse the verb, identify the case, translate word by word. This method produces scholars who can analyze texts but rarely anyone who can read fluently, let alone think in the language.

The living language approach treats Ancient Greek the way we treat any language worth learning: through comprehensible input and active use. You hear Greek, you speak Greek, you absorb its patterns naturally. Grammar becomes intuitive rather than a set of rules to memorize and apply.

This is the method used at the Polis Institute, where I trained for two years in full immersion. It's the same method behind my videos, my tutoring, and my courses. The goal isn't to produce translators—it's to produce readers who can pick up Homer or Plato and understand what they're reading, directly, without the crutch of constant dictionary consultation.

Core Principles

  • Comprehensible Input

Language acquisition happens when you understand messages, not when you memorize rules. Every lesson prioritizes meaningful exposure.

  • Active Production

Speaking and writing in Greek—not just reading—builds the neural pathways that make fluency possible.

  • Grammar in Context

Grammatical concepts are introduced as they arise naturally, reinforced through use rather than isolated drill.
